Energy Meters
We want to make everyone aware of low-carbon products and technologies, so when we heard about 'energy meters' we got a small grant to buy 10 of the devices to loan out to you all.
The energy meters plug into your electricity supply and show you how much you are spending at any one time, it'll definitely convince you to not fill the kettle when you are only making 1 cup of tea! They will also show you how much CO2 you are emitting to the atmosphere.
The only problem with the meters is that the instruction booklet was far too complicated and really put everyone off using it. We thought we'd wasted out time until Heather and Carrie, our energy champions came along. They loved the energy meter so much that they decided that they'd take matters into their own hands and re-write the instruction booklet. It worked a treat and what they produced is so much easier to use, it looks good too!
As if that wasn't useful enough, as of March 2009 we got approached by the European Union to run a follow on project using new and more swanky energy meter that links up to the internet. The Digital Environmental Home Energy Management System (DEHEMS) project aims to increase energy efficiency across Europe.
People using the new meter can view their energy usage online and also compare it other DEHEMS users - get in on the competition!
